GENERAL SI SI, 2017
Acrylic, oil stick and ink on paper, 28x40"
"General Si Si" presents a vibrant interrogation of martial legacy within the framework of cartoonish buffoonery. The General Si Si's stern visage, traditional in its portrayal of stoic authority, is transformed through the use of vivid, almost mocking color and dynamic patterns, imbuing the piece with a sense of movement and contemporary fluidity.
Symbols and regalia typical of military decoration are portrayed with an almost playful irreverence, suggesting a commentary on the transient and performative nature of power. The General's traditional uniform is reimagined as a canvas for expression, challenging the viewer to reconcile the stoicism of the military figure with the exuberance of the colors that envelop him.
