TRIPLE COBRA, 2018
Mixed media on canvas, 38x38"
"Triple Cobra" presents a reimagining of the traditional yoga pose, repurposing the familiar arc of the backbend into a vertical ascent. This reinterpretation carries the figures from a prone position to an implied stance, suggesting an augmentation or transcendence of the practice into new realms of possibility.
From the perspective of Kundalini yoga, the Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana) is believed to activate and awaken the Kundalini energy, which is said to reside dormant at the base of the spine. This energy, often depicted as a serpent coiled at the spine's root, can be visualized as rising through the chakras, or energy centers, in a movement akin to that of a cobra rising from a state of rest. Through the activation of this pose, practitioners believe they can tap into their inner power, harness creativity, and evoke a sense of spiritual awakening.
